So did you use your new ball for this Tourn.? Yes. It was the one I use almost the whole time on Saturday. The only bad thing was it started rubbing a blister on my thumb. I started using it on Sunday and struggled the first game. I changed my hand position and got something going for the first 2 frames of the second game, but in the third frame it tore the blister open. I tried to still use the ball, but I just could get anything on it the way I wanted. I had to go to my other balls. The problem was the new ball's thumb was a bit ruff, which is what caused the problem. Since my other balls thumbs are smooth I didn't have a problem with them. I'm going to get Jimbo to try and smooth out the thumb to night and then put the ball away until the next tournament. Thumb inserts..... I use them in all my equipment..... that way, they all feel the same and never had a thumb problem in my life....JMO...

I think that when Jimbo hit it with the sander it didn't smooth it out right. Its one of those things, you don't want to hit it to much to make the thumb to big.

You can always put in tape.....Even with thumb inserts, I have them a little big and have to put in 1 to 2 pcs. of tape..... that way if my thumb swells, I'm still good. To many times when going out of town to bowl and out of state for sure, the climate will affect my hand and often makes it swell. All I have to do then, is take out a piece or two and I'm still good....
You must of been squeezing the ball a little to cause a blister.. even if the insert was a little rough from sanding...

I do agree that when I go to tournaments out of town, I generally have to take out 1-2 pieces of tape. I think that's also why I have always put oversized finger tip inserts in the ball too. I don't like a tight fit on the fingers.

I like my finger inserts a little snug...but not real snug....I usually don't have a problem with my fingers as much out of town, just my thumb depending on the humidity outside....

I don't have a problem with my thumb swelling or shrinking. I now use an oval insert so I don't have to use tape. I don't like using tape anymore. When I use to use it I would squeeze the ball and end up pulling the tape out of the ball. Plus the blister is on the back side of my thumb on the knuckle.

Did you put your tape in the front of your thumb insert when you used tape?

I'll show you what I am talking about tonight. You can feel the difference in the inserts.

I'm familiar with the difference, the circle inserts as you refer to them are called Tapered thumb inserts. They are round but get smaller as you go deeper into the thumb insert. I never liked those inserts.... The oval contour to your thumb better, at least for me they do and they are the same size all the way down into the thumb insert.
I never liked putting tape in the front of my thumb, it changed the span (made it longer) and always made me hang in the ball. Plus the white tape is too tacky for my liking to be put in the front.....I was always taught to put tape in the back of your thumb, it created a better more consistent feel.... at least for me it did....

Sorry, I was refering to how ruff the insert was compaired to my other one. I know that you know the difference in the 2 types.

Oh, ok....... my ovals are very smooth, but I don't run the drimmel sander down the thumb insert either when I work them out....Since they are a little big off the get go, I don't need to. I just hit the top a little bit and take a small peice of sand paper to work the top a little more.... I like leaving a little edge at the top of my thumb to remind me not to squeeze and keep my thumb straight.....

My back went out Saturday while bowling the first game. It became very painful to finish out but I did.... Good bowling doc..... doc qualified to return on sunday and bowled 5 more games.... then they cut to the top however many for match play... he didn't make that but cashed for $400 or maybe more... not too bad... Sorry about your back... I know you were probably bumped out of brackets and stuff with a 180 game Nice shooting doc. Now you will have some money to give to me at the end of the season...lol
