Well, for those that did not know (especially the ones that have slapped or punched me in the right shoulder for the last couple of weeks) I underwent arthroscopic surgery on 12/28.
After multiple X-rays and MRI there was a suspected labrum tear...
I suspected my bowling decline was due to some sort of injury... However, I was unable to pursure medical attention earlier in the year due to a co-worker have reconstructive rotator cuff surgery in May...
Anyway, the surgery did not reveal a labrum tear... I did have a bone spur on the chromium bone, which produced chronic tendonitis, but what they did find was a large amount of arthritis for a person as young as me... (Dr.'s words.. not mine)... anyway, 60-75% of the ball joint of my shoulder (not the socket) was covered with dead, arthritic cartiledge and was shaved off...
I had joked I had a Jeff Bagwell shoulder and it appears I really do... anyway... my stitches came out yesterday, I have rubber bands to do strengthening exercises, and I will have to monitor an arthritic shoulder for the rest of my life, as it will probably return... He suggested a try a month's course of Osteo bi-flex, which is a nutritional supplement that encourages healthy cartiledge and joint flexibility... return for another follow-up in a month, and no work until after that...
The best news is I have no weight restrictions on my left arm, so I can bowl... just can't haul bowling bags around on my right shoulder until the strength returns...
My initial response is I am planning on staying left handed until I wear out that shoulder and hand and arm... by my personal experiences, I predict that to take alot longer than 25 years...
so, I should be good to go... I may check out the right arm later after it has healed out of curiosity, but, unless I just bottom out as a lefty and show no signs of improving, I may just keep the right side in retirement.
