I recognized the name, and he was who I thought he was after we heard the news and then I met him on Saturday night... I have talked to his Mother, Linda, a couple of times, but nothing other than just polite small talk. She was beaming all night long, the entire family was walking on air...
You know, recognition is a crazy thing... our sport is really going through a transition with changing the achievement awards to once in a lifetime, then, you pass out a few $3 homemade certificates in the presence of about 150 people and you realize, it IS about the accomplishment, and the award can be almost anything, as long as it is recognized and acknowledged.
That is what USBC needs to remember... and, if there is a method, or a plan, for local Associarions to acknowledge the accomplishments, even without the issuing of a patch or something else, then we need to look into ways of making sure our member's accomplishments are noted...
Congrats Keven, I can tell you, Pete McCordic was very impressed with your 300 game, and we talked about it several different times during the dinner...

Every time I hear about a YABA bowler shooting an honor score at an age before I started bowling still just boggles my mind! I know alot can be said about equipment and lane conditions being a huge factor, but the same can be said about golf. I'm pretty sure some of the old PGA golfers say the same thing about the young guns driving the ball 300 plus yards! "they wouldn't have done that using my driver or my golf ball" But you still can't take away the accomplishment of being the first Junior bowler in the Pasadena Association's HISTORY of bowling a PERFECT GAME! There have been several good bowlers in the Pasadena YABA and AJBC history. James Hickey, Rudy Ruiz, Scott Savant, Eric Traylor, Jeremy Evans, Tim White, Derek Johnson(lol) just to name a few of the top of my head. All of these guys have shot several honor scores in ABC/USBC and James,Rudy,Eric,Tim And Scott have bowled on the PBA With James and Scott having won a PBA event!!! So being the first to bowl a 300 game puts Kevin ahead of some very accomplished bowlers!!! Keep up the good bowling Kevin!! Jimmy Fields
