Just a reminder, in-league qualifying is Oct 27th-Nov 23rd for the Fall All Star tournament.
This year there will be 3 divisions.
201 & up averages will be in the Scratch Division.
200 & under is handicap division.
We are also going to have a women's division. The women do not have to buy a cross-over sanction. This tournament will be sanctioned as mixed, open to PWBA members.
The women's division will be handicapped. All women will have the option to bowl in any of the divisions. Men will only be allowed to bowl in the handicap or scratch divisions.
As usual, the qualifying will be for 4 weeks, during your league. 1:4 will qualify for the semi-finals, which will be December 3, 2005. 3 games @ Armadilla, 3 games @ Diamond. Top 8 in all divisions will then qualify for a double elimination bracket finals.
In league qualifying cost is $5.00
Semi-Finals cost is $25.00.
Bowlers attempting to qualify in league, but failing, have the option to purchase their spot in the semi's for $45.00. This reflects the cost ($25.00) plus buying your 1:4 spot (4 @ $5.00).

Well, I would say after 1 week of qualifying the All Star is going about as expected.
Except for the 0% response and participation from the Thursday night Ladies League. Well, I take that back, there was 1 entry, but not as a result of walking the lanes...
Those ladies looked at me like I was a pariah... and I don't care to walk the lanes anyway, and last night was a classic example... 32 full lanes of 5 persons per team, and I got 2....... count them 2 entries based on my asking each and every table if they would like to participate in the All Star qualifying... the 2 entries I got on my walk through were perfect and Dana Simmons... eventually I ended up with 8 total entries, but got 5 of those at last call...
I think walking the lanes is better suited for someone else... I hate the rejection.

I'm surprised that some of the ladies didn't get their purses out, swinging at you, the "darn young whippersnapper !!" ;D ;D ;D Very few of those ladies compete in ANY tournaments, especially one that is labeled "All Stars". If I am still subbing next week, I'll talk to a few of the younger ladies that MIGHT be talked into it. I had my $5 out ready to donate, but decided I didn't have it in me to top my Wednesday scores...... I hate to say it, but you are a NATURAL walking the lanes ;D ;D ;D

I wonder if participation would increase if you named a Tournament "No Bowlers Only Tournament"? lol But, that brings up a point, I know through work experience, that most surveys produce 20%-25% at best, and most times much less return, but do you think it would be of any benefit to survey the Pasadena Bowlers and ask what they expect out of their local Association, or what the Association could do to increase participation among our members? I have to tell you I have a great fear that female particpation is going to plummet once the merger takes place. And the main reason I fear that is that most of the female bowlers are going to think the men are running everything and they have no voice or concern in the Association's business... How is that perception going to be changed, or avoided?

How is that perception going to be changed, or avoided? This is a MAJOR concern for the women and some are even leary about participating in the Jan 14 open meeting.......already feeling they have NO chance to win a place on the new board. Again, it goes back to the popularity contest. Men bowl on mixed leagues and some of the involved women do not, which means very few men will know these ladies and how dedicated they've been in the past. I am hoping these ladies will stay involved on committees even if they are not on the new board. I doubt you would be able to get 25% response from a survey. The 25% you WOULD get, would be from everyone who bowls in tournaments, multiple leagues, and are involved in board activities -- and we already KNOW what they want. I hate to say it, but more often than not, a great percentage of people I see on regular league nights don't really give a care about meetings, association activities -- they just want to show up on their night, bowl and get out of there as quickly as possible............ and I doubt you could encourage them to attend an open meeting even if a $1000 door prize was offered. I personally think that more "advertisement" of these tournaments and recognition of winners of these activites would be the best incentive to get people more involved -- people LOVE their names over the loud speaker and posted in print for all to see.

Good points... especially about publicizing winners of tournaments... when "Joe and Sue Bowler" see that it is not the "perceived superstars" winning all the tournaments they may feel more inclined to participate... I have formulated some concerns that I think are the greatest challenges facing the new Association. One is backlash from membership concerning the changes and non-participation due to the creation of the new Board... especially by the Hard Liners, be they men or women... not bowling in the City tournaments because there are Board members of the opposite sex working the lanes or whatever... Another concern I have is the election of the new Board... this meeting will be open to ALL membership of Pasadena Bowling Associations. The elections could well be decided based on who brings whom to the meeting... and, there is a distinct possiblity that persons that have been leaders in their Association, will become workers... can that transition be made? Can someone that is not used to the grunt work gear up to be a worker bee again? That is a major concern. We are losing almost 50% of the involved Boards.... 30+ to 21... there is going to have to be alot of work involved, the first year especially... Committee Responsibilities have to be created and approved... there is alot of business to take care of... it will involve alot of time and effort from, I hope, a large number of people... I cannot stress enough, if you are interested in making a committement to the bowlers of Pasadena... your help will be needed. Get involved.

This shows how little perfect knows about women also!He still thinks when they see him sitting at bw3's by himself smoking squinting at the trivia screen and they ask him for a light that it still means "GIVE ME A LIGHT NOW BUY ME A DRINK NOW AND SINCE I NEEDED A LIGHT EARLIER YOU CAN LIGHT ME UP AFTER WE HAVE SEX AT THE CAVE!!!!!!!!!!
Here's perfect!!! #SmlyROFL#
#deadhorse# "Wake up baby do you need a light" Oh shiat I think she's dead #hospital# I better call 911 for an ambulance"
Then his thoughts change to this" HEHEHEHEHE almost 45 years old and I still got it " As he struts around the house #party-smiley-017# Someone bring perfect back to reality #twak# Perfect she was 65 years old on heart medicine and the results of the autopsy were as follows #typing#
65 year old woman passed away at perfect's house Friday night. The results are as follows. Death was related to LAUGHING. She was laughing so hard when perfect strutted up to the bed she had a heart attack and died.

I cannot stress enough, if you are interested in making a committement to the bowlers of Pasadena... your help will be needed. Get involved. I agree with your concerns as I have similar thoughts. Some people are just not willing to accept change gracefully. I feel that if these individuals are THAT reluctant for this change, then maybe it is best that they bow out - it is going to be hard enough as it is without negativity at every turn and those comments about "how we USED to do it." My hope is that persons not willing to become part of the "clique" and having hard feelings toward the board/board members in the past - and there are many - will finally STEP UP and get involved and let their voice be heard again. I am also hopeful that Jan 14 will be a punch in the gut for some people and a "cleaning of the house" so to speak. We KNOW there is going to be a drop off in participation next year in some events as you've stated above. Some people will have hard feelings and I doubt there is anything that can be done to change their feeling -- well, for THIS year that is. It should be in the new board's mission statement to dedicate themselves to building participation for the future. I think that the work you and Lorrie (et.al) did to build the Mixed City Tournament this year is proof in itself that with the RIGHT people involved in these committees, great things will happen. Establishing the RIGHT people to be part of these committees (even though they are not on the board) is the key for success. I personally keep forgetting that there are plenty of people out there that want to help at certain things but are hesitant to commit to board involvement. Sometimes all we have to do is ask and these persons will help out. I should know -- I was one of them not too long ago. Only a handful of people know about the other website to obtain information. Only a handful of people know what is going on with USBC. Only a handful of people know about upcoming tournaments. Only a handful of people know about the Jan 14 meeting. How do we get all this information to all these people? Flyers? Announcements? One-on-One conversations with every table on every league on every night? Yep, you are right.......... there is a lot of work to do.

Is the finals on Dec 3 The PWBA had the All-Stars on their calendar for Dec 10 a few months ago, and scheduled their December meeting around that date, pushed it back to Dec 3 so members qualifying could bowl. Yikes! We may NOT get as many entries for the womens division now.......

It is December 3rd. And that is day for the PWBA Christmas Party. They vote on their Hall of Fame Candidates and other such stuff.
I think the PBA could/ should investigate moving their day back a week. There is a Latin Tournament @ Armadilla on that day as well that is costing us entries and I don't know about trying to conduct a tournament while they are running one of their tournaments. I will email Joe and James and ask them their thoughts on the matter.
