For those of you that know Kyle is is at Duke University awaiting his lung transplant surgery. He was activated (a term they use for ready) last Tuesday. The average wait time is 8 days so he should be getting the CALL any time now. For those interested they have a website that updates with info www.lungs4kyle.net/

Yes, I know Kyle, haven't seen him in a couple of years though. Didn't he have Cystic Fibrosis or something? Well I hope everything goes well and wish him and his family all my best wishes k...

Kyle got his 1st call for lungs today. They will not know if the surgery is a go until 7 tonight. I say first call because the Duke transplant team has to look at the lungs and say yeah or nay. They are in the air in route now to look at them. If it is a go they will prep Kyle for surgery. Lets all keep our fingers crossed that since he has waited so long for his first call that this is the only call.

Here is the latest update off his website in his wife's words:
Tuesday, March 07, 2006 -- Kyle is in surgery now "They came in and told us that he is now in surgery. 8:45pm is when he went it. I will update again when I hear more news!!!" Tuesday, March 07, 2006 -- IT IS A GO!!!!!!! "We got the call at 6:15pm from the coordinator and she said that it was a go. They came to get him at 6:30pm and wheeled him back to the operating area as I just stood there watching him go down the hall. He was nervous but I think he was just so ready to get it all done. I know he will be ok and he will come out of this with flying colors. I already miss him just sitting here in the waiting room. Gordon is in the air right now so I think he will get in around 11:00pm. We just knew that we wouldn't have a dry run so it is a relief that it was on the first shot. The wait now I think will be longer mentally than the 5 weeks we waited to get a call. The surgery could take anywhere from 4 hours to 10 hours so I would say about 6 hours would be about right. I will post again when I hear any updates. "

Here is the latest update:
Wednesday, March 08, 2006 -- Another update We have gotten 2 updates in the past couple of hours. At 11:45 they said they were about to start taking his old lungs out and put the new ones in. Then at 12:45 they came in and told us that they have taken the right lung out and were about to start on the left. He is doing extremely well so that is great news. I still have Coby, Richard and Coby's parents still here. Mabel's mom Christy just came up and brought me a goodie bag with some necessities. Gordon just showed up also so we are all here. Wide awake. I will update soon. Thanks to all those who have left a message. I am trying to respond to all of them.

Latest updates. This will be the last time unless it is major.
Wednesday, March 08, 2006 -- Good Morning Update Well, at 6:10am Gordon and I got to see Kyle!!!!! He looked better than I was imagining. I unfortunately got to see kyle as they were wheeling him from the OR to the ICU unit. I was not prepared for that and I lost it for a minute. When we went back to see him, the nurse told us he was doing extremely well. He was on the ventilator but Kyle was actually doing most of the breathing which she said was a good sign that it would be coming out sooner rather than later. She said he was doing really good and didn't need a blood transfusion during the operation which was really good also. I have nothing but faith that Kyle will be up and alert by the end of today and for sure up walking by tomorrow. They will try to get him up and walking as soon as possible!!! I can only see him between the hours of 9am and 9pm and only for 15 minutes at a time and that is really going to kill me but what can I do but pray he gets to the step down unit tomorrow where someone can be with him 24/7!!!! I feel better now!!!!
Wednesday, March 08, 2006 -- Mid Morning Update I got to see Kyle again at 9:00am. He looked even better than he did when we saw him at 6:10!!! He is not able to talk and hasn't opened his eyes but he nods yes and no and the one thing the nurses said was that he was hot and he wanted to take his covers off. I had already bought a fan to bring up here because it has to be new and in the box. I will have Gordon bring it back when he gets here in a little while. The nurses say he is doing "stellar" and one of the crucial tests to see how his blood is flowing through the lungs was also "stellar". The nurses used that word for alot of kyle's progress. While waiting for the 9:00 visit, the physical therapist from the Center for Living, David came to see Kyle and he came and told me that Kyle looked really good. The nurses also told me that if Kyle keeps up the good work, they will take his ventilator out in A FEW HOURS!!!!! He will love that!!! I am so happy but I am also still scared because we have a long road ahead of us. I know he will be ok and he is in the best hands here at Duke. Richard has been by twice to see Kyle and has missed him both times. He is leaving to go back home today so he really wants to at least see him before he goes. The nurses were about to pull the line out of his groin so it would be a couple of hours before I could see him again. I CAN'T WAIT!!!!!

That's a pretty good scar... I'm sure it's much more graphic looking in real life...

Thanks for all that thought about us. I would love to come and see every body. I want to give it a little more time before I get around all that smoke. I am still recovering and my lung function continues to increase. I just want to let it get as high as I can.
I will be throwing out the first pitch at the Astros game on June 2nd.
Again thanks to all for your support.
