Well I bowled the Texarkana Regional this past weekend. I finished 66th at -43. It took +67 to make the cut and I was on track to make until the 6th game. I just didn't have the right ball for the way the lanes changed. Next time I bowl on that pattern I now know what other ball I will need.
Here is how the day went.
182 - Started with 2 splits, missed a 10 pin in the 5th. 181 - Had opens in the 4th & 5th, and missed a 10 pin in the 9th. 235 - Clean game. 217 - Clean game. 228 - Clean game. 160 - Lanes started to dry out. Opened the 8th, 9th, & 10th. 199 - One open in the 6th. 155 - Just to dry. 3 opens and only one strike.
Oh well there is always next torunament and tonight at Arm II.

Even though the PBA Regionals run different lane conditions than when I bowled Regionals. I did bowl the 1985 Texarcana Open and they were on the dry side then. I threw a new Hammer Blue Nail for that Tourn. and was swinging 4th arrow..... I did pretty well to, finished 2nd... behind Chris Witty from Kansas I think. We just had a Round Robin match play finals back then, no stair step of the top five like other Regions and the National level. I beat him the last game but not by enough to over take him... Heck, 2nd place back then paid 1,500.00, that wasn't bad money 22 years ago....lol... Better luck next time doc.... and there is no substitute for experience..... I'm sure you will do better next time....

I'm sure you will do better next time.... The house is now has synthetic lanes. We had the Scorpion pattern for this tournament. That was the first time I every bowled on that pattern, so I didn't know what I was going to need. I started practice standing 20, looking 8 and if I hit 8-10 it would get to the pocket. By the 5 frame I had to move 5 board right with my feet, but kept the same mark, but I had swing room right. For the next few game I had to slowly move back left with my feet, but by the 6th game I couldn't get far enough left and what I needed was a shinny less aggressive ball. Just for general information, the Texarkana tournament is the longest running PBA tournament. This was the 38th year

Texarcana was wood when I bowled it in 85, I have no idea as to when they went to synthetics..... I knew is was a regular stop back then, I just didn't know they kept it going continuously since then.... I think I bowled it again in 86 after coming off the National Tourn. in Feb. of 86.... I remember the shot was different and I didn't do as well.... I think I drew a check but didn't make the finals... but not sure on that...

The only reason I know that is that Pete made the announcement about it before we started. Oh one other thing. You give me such a hard time about my spelling, it is a K in Texarkana, not a C. Sorry just had to mess with you.

I'm not worried about myself.... but there are 4 other bowlers on my team.... I can't control what they do....but we are hoping to make it to the final match....but anything can happen.... I think our experience and my intimidation factor I have on some bowlers in that league will work to our favor... ;D

Those bowlers must be on other teams or leagues...lol.... I was talking about DFW, I've been told by them, that my bowling abilities intimidate some of the bowlers on that team... I don't know about anyother teams... But I'm sure those other teams are hoping I stay under a 250 game when we bowl them....lol...
