I have read the rule books back and forth, and maybe I just missed this, but is this a new addition to the dead ball ruling. I am glad, for it add back the sportsmanship and makes it possible to have a ball ruled dead if players from the other team(s) are being rude and trying to mess up other players!
A player is interfered with by the pinsetter, another player, spectator, or moving object as the ball is being delivered and before delivery is completed. In such case, the player has the option to accept the resulting pinfall or have a dead ball called.

To get the Dead Ball call, do other people on the pair have to agree that there was a legitimate distraction, before he gets a "do over"?.... Is there any limits to how many "Dead Ball Calls" a person can have in one game?...
To me, this could be a slippery slope.... To me, if your going to call "Dead Ball" it would seem you would need to yell it out before the ball hits the pins..... instead of giving the bowler the option of taking the pin fall or a do over..... There will always be people that will take advantage of this and that's why I am nervous about this rule.....JMO....

The person could call it, but if a disagreement were to take place you would follow the provisional rules. Bowling out the frame and then bowling again and recording that frame as well. If the problem became a repetitive issue, I would think you would need to involve the board of the league.
This is of course just my opinion. I could find nothing more about it in the book.

What's to stop a bowler from doing a "do over" every time a kid screams or whatever in the bowling alley if all he has to do is claim interference "Dead Ball" everytime he didn't strike?.... A dead ball is a dead ball, "It shouldn't count" period. Not be given the choice to take the first shot, regardless of what you knocked down. If you claim dead ball, do it before the ball hits the pins. If you say if afterwards, then it's too late in my opinion and you have to take the shot.
You see what I'm trying to say here?

I see it, but again...you are not hearing me. The rule is clear that the person must call it before it hits...but he would be allowed to take the pinfall if it is because of someone else...that is the way it is written. I do think that if someone had an arguement with the way a person was using the rule you could do something about it. I think the rule is most likely to be used in key situations where it is an important game and someone yells during a backswing on purpose, etc... In those cases I really like that if the person tries to mess the person up and that person calls a dead ball, but if it strikes that person can keep it.

Is noise part of that. I guess I always assumed it was something in your sight forward.
By the definition given, I would say "yes". In addition to a bowler running out a shot and veering over into your lane during your approach, banners or advertisement falling within your line of site... "Meaning" close to your pair, not the other end of the house.
Noises such as a bowling ball falls off the racks or dropped accidental or on purpose, close to your pair. Loud screams or whistling by other bowlers and kids could be included.
But basically, if something going to bother you that bad, all bowlers should be able to stop their approach before releasing the ball, (except on the last step and arm swing is going forward). Dan Andrews is the only bowler I know, that can decide to stop 3/4 of the way through his release and be able to not release it.....lol......
I think a bowler should only be able to request a "Dead Ball", and must be approved by the other team and/or League officers...JMO.... and the distraction must be obvious to many bowlers, not just the one that is claiming a "Dead Ball"...IMO.....

It would take us back to the day when people were more respectful of others while they were on the approach. Bowling was just as much fun back when you didn't yell and scream where it messes others up. I try to teach my youth bowlers that respect.
They laugh at me because have words that they use everyday that I don't allow to be said. Like: stupid, shut up, sucks, retarded, etc. My kids think I am crazy cuz I won't let them talk like that at home! It is plain bad manners.

I agree with you 100% there MsMullet.... many more kids these days are not being taught good proper manners by their parents, than in the days when we were raised...... "You spare the rod, you spoil the child" There is no exceptions......more butt busting is needed on many of our youth today...JMO...

I agree that more manners are necessary. I have said it on here before. Most of the bowlers only care about winning, but have forgotten that sportsmanship is part of being a winner as well. I will say this, last night in the sweepers, I did try to say good luck and shake the hand of my competitor before the match…I can’t say I did it every time, I know of one I missed, but I did try…plus I shook their hand afterward if they won or I won. Jeremy and I shook each others hand twice or so after our set. Ryan Booth and Garland were also as mannered. I cannot speak for anyone else, as these are the ones that I observed, but how many people congratulated the other person when they won? Hmmmm! Well, that is my point…people have forgotten this is supposed to be fun, yes we all want to win, and yes, sometimes we all get lucky and sometimes the other team gets just as lucky, but the game is supposed to be fun.

My kids haven't had a true butt busting in years. I am fortunate that the butt bustings haven't really been necessary. There were probably times that I should have but didn't. The last time I whipped my son it hurt me more than him. He towers over me now.
My mom & dad always said it hurt them more than it did me..... but I was a kid then and thought they were crazy...lol.... as I got older, I learned how they were right and was thankful they loved me enough to make sure I was raised to behave and have manners... They were firm believers in tough love...lol.... I have to say, me and my brother turned out alright and have done well for ourselves.... So I have to conclude, they did right...again...JMO.... ;D
Me and my brothers butt bustings stop around the 7th or 8th grade.... Once in High school, it was grounding and/or privileges taken away.... Most of ours came between 2nd grade and 6th grade...if I remember correctly...lol...

That's about right. There again, when we my kids are grounded this entails...nothing electronic...no games, no radio, no telephone or tv. Life is boring for them. They tried the arguing that when so and so is grounded they just can't go anywhere. My response is one of my moms (that I thoroughly hated!) "I'm not their mother!"
For us, it was go to school, come home afterword's, do homework, no TV, no phone calls, no going anywhere after school, unless it was work. Chores around the house on weekends, I looked forward to cutting the grass by then, cause I was able to get outside for a while....lol.....
I have to say, me and my brother were pretty good, we really didn't get into trouble that often.... My dad being 6'-3" 210 lbs. back then and a stare that would make your heart stop beating, gave us lots of incentive to be good....lol... imagine that....lol....
Fathers do make a difference in a child's up bringing, to me I felt God intended the Father to be the one to make the kids tow the line... Mom's can do it to but men are just more of a hard a$$ and seem to do it better...JMO...

OMG now I remember why we always pick on you. You were going great until you made sexist comment! My kids didn't really have a father figure in their life (at least one that disciplined them) until Mike came along 5 years ago. I think I did all right. My kids aren't little angels, but they are kids that don't get in trouble for the most part.
