IMO - honor scores should not count in make up play. i can say this, my first 300 was in make up play. our entire team bowled, but it was after bowling league one night, and i bowled 300-233-247 for 780. I was not nervous, i got to keep up a faster pace which is important when you have found the "sweet" spot on the lane. i was never near as proud of that accomplishment as i was the 300 i bowled in my league in front of the entire league. there are so many variables during league, down to noise etc etc. I can't tell you how many times people have told me too bad i didn't see Garland bowl blah blah blah, but my reply is "he wouldn't have done had i been there because the conditions he bowled it under must have been conducive for him" USBC had no choice. they sent 2 reps down there to try to find the hole, there wasn't one. rules are set up not with cheaters in mind, but as guidelines for those that love the sport. Remember, this kid is not reaping the rewards for those 2 scores. it will forever be questioned, his credibility has been questioned and he will never probably do anything again. if he lied, this is his punishment, if he didn't, then it's a shame. i hope youth bowlers don't look at this though and say, "well, if you are a youth bowler, noone believes you" they need to know they are backed up also. All questions would be answered and people would quit griping if he would take a polygraph test and USBC would show the bowlers the evidence they have that helped them make their decision. Then everyone would be more satisfied.
