Bowled ok last night but didn't hit my avg. from last year. Went 256, 186, 226 for a 668 series. Lanes really got squirrely the 2nd game. Made a line and ball change and did better but the oil was still pushing down the 3rd game and carry was getting tough. We lost 3 as a team last night.
Arm II is now having the same problem as Arm I, OIL CARRY DOWN. Reason in my opinion. The outsides and backends hook so much it's forcing bowlers inside into the heavier oil to keep the ball off the beak and causing you to cover too many boards. After a game of this, the oil is pushing down and when you move right and make a little mistake right on your target, your ball catches the BONE DRY boards from 7th ot 8th board out and hooks instantly and if you keep your ball tight and away from it, your ball hits like a marshmellow from all the oil carry down.
IMO... the gutter tanks need to be ran further so bowlers can move right off the get go and play a tighter line...... But also the cause could be the new lane finish... I don't know what was used but I doubt if it was the same finish that was on there before. But since it's most likely that both houses used the same product and both houses are having the same problem... it could be the cause of the problem as well...JMO...

Well, well, well... I have a few observations of the Armadilla $$ 2007 league...
I am glad we have 14 teams. Payoff and money should be better.
As for the lanes, I got alot of carrydown in the middle of game 2 myself... lost all my minimal carry and then started trying to force the ball, and among other problems I struggled after a 185 start...
I will say this however, and our readers may take this however they want... but, with no judging of individuals, this league has an identity crisis.
We are paying $22 per night, the league is advertised as a money league, but we have a couple of strong teams, a handful of competitive teams and about 4, 6 or 8 teams that don't belong... just because you have $22 in your pocket and want to bowl a league does not mean you should be joining this league...
I thought I was in the middle of a rock and bowl experience last night... all that was missing was the music blaring over the speakers... people screaming at their teammates from the back tables while they were on the approach... doing tequila shots like it was a Friday night in Cancun... I saw a bowler do a freakin handstand on the approach??
WTF is up with that?
This league may have 14 teams and everybody may be all giddy and excited about it "growing", but, I think it may be at the expense of losing some teams that are there to compete in a friendly, competitive BOWLING atmosphere.
Now, having said all that, I have no personal problems with any of the individuals that may have taken part in the activites I listed... I am friendly with most everyone, and was complimentary to the team we bowled...
There just may need to be a bowling ettiquette lessons given to some of the teams that may be unfamiliar with bowling league.
That being said, I have the Armadilla Dollars league on probation and there is 35 weeks plus the roll off week left to change my first impression... which is NOT GOOD.

I guess as league President I should respond to this and PBA I do agree with your observation of the league and know which team you are talking about. I only know one person on that team but that one person I was planning on talking to already to see if they could tone it down a little. I'm hopeful that a mention of it from me will be enough but if not, I'm sure Randy could have some influence on her and the team since she works for Arm II establishment. As far as the strength and weaknesses of the teams, there's not much I can do about that. I know Roger had to turn away 3 or 4 teams because the house didn't have room and some of those teams may have been stronger teams than some of the others that got in sooner. I think until we can get more years in on this league where some of the weaker teams will weed out on their own and replaced with stronger teams, provided we can keep the stronger teams. It will be one thing we'll have to deal with in the meantime...JMO...

As I said, I have no history of problems with anyone that was partaking in the activities, I think we just need to reemphasize this is a competitive league that some people are there to perform the best they can...

I agree.. I don't want to make a big deal of it and I don't think you do either. But I feel it easier to concentrate on your game when you don't have loud teams sucking down pitchers of beer and screaming across from the lanes to the back table and doing hand stands on the approach. I missed seeing that last night. I think this can be handled with a short talk with the person I wish to talk to about it....

As President of your league, you should be having the Sargent of Arms handle this situation. I mean that is what that position is for. JMO

True.... but this was the first night of league and so often, many in the league may not know who is our Sargent of Arms. I think it's best in situations like this that league officers help and back-up our Sargent of Arms. I think that helps sends a clearer message and it helps to let that team or person know that it's just not one person picking on them and this corrective action is being backed up by other league officers.

Last night was the last night of ABC Independent League. We went 2-2 last night and finished 6 or 7 th in the league.
I bowled ok going 213, 198, 268 for a 679..... Lanes were a lot dryer than usual... I started off with my feet 5 boards left of normal but if helped combat the oil carrydown I usually get... Did get some but I just slowed my ball speed down a little to overcome it. I was throwing the ball too hard the last part of my first game and all the second game... Even though the lanes were dryer, I had a consistant and scorable reaction once I made the right adjustments.

Everything was awesome last night.
Had a great time.
I think the NO SMOKING made up for the lane machine breaking down and the crummy shot on th elanes.

I had no problem going outside to smoke... just wished Randy would put out some large concrete ash trays outside. Yes, the lanes were bad but we were told up front that the lane machine broke down during oiling last night....it happens, no biggy... We lost 3 because our team avg. was a lot higher than the team we bowled and we were not able to come close to our team avg. except for one game... Having a rough start in this league...2 - 6...

The GPUSBC is hosting a tournament on October 14 @ Armadilla Lanes.
See the message board at Pasadenabowling.com for preliminary information.
It will be a trio tournament like the San Antonio versions, and we had 1 or 2 @ Diamond a few years back.
It will be certified. Flyers and entry forms out soon.

It sounded good until you said, 90% of 220 handicap..... that will steer some if not many scratch bowlers away..... And City Tourn. has already proven (at least in the mens) that Div. 1 has more entries than the other divisions.... And with the way Arm I's lane conditions have been lately (avg. 213 their during the summer) I feel I would have very little chance of doing well having to bowl on an avg. of 232 avg. when that same condition is not out there... and with the many problems Arm I and Arm II has had keeping their lane machines working properly recently.... I heard again last night (from the horses mouth) but yet another problem with Arm I's lane machine has been discovered and needs to be fixed..... Arm I & II need new lane machines......JMO...

Well, it's individual match play against the other team, so, if the majority of bowlers are Division 1, then you can assume you might not be giving away a bunch of handicap to your opponent...
You still have a 12 pin advantage with your average being higher than the base number, so, as with all tournaments, you have to make the decision for yourself as to whether you want to bowl or not.
As an Association, we have to try to provide tournaments that will offer reasons for all bowlers to enter... we can't control the lane conditions or the dates, as we are customers of the center as well... and we have the scratch division of the All Star tournament that will be starting up right after that... and we have to offer some sort of handicap for the average bowler to feel like they have a chance as well... it's a tournament, not a paycheck for the scratch bowlers.
There will be scratch brackets and scratch high game pots for the scratch bowlers to enter at their option... plus, it is mixed, and there is a shortage of certified 220 average women bowlers in Pasadena... especially since 212 is the HIGHEST women's average in the city...
