I've heard through the grapevine that gasoline prices will reach $3/gallon by the end of the month and stay there for a while. To check for competitive pricing in your area, check this website which is updated nightly ...... autos.msn.com/everyday/gasstations.aspx?zip=&src=Netx

yes...gas should reach that number easily by the full of summer from every business article I have read and from the business shows I watch. However, the American public, if they really want the price to go down, need to really CONSUME less gas, carpool more, etc. The beauty of high prices though is that more people are looking into Metro. At the CU, where they sell Metro Passes to County Employees at a discount, they have seen more Stored Value Cards and more 30 day passes being sold as prices go up. I know that many people hate being without their cars, but if you are on a good route for metro, you can save a lot of money.
Average Savings for Park and Ride people:
Average Miles to and from Work: 50 Average 30 day Pass for Park and Ride: $85 Average Spening on Gas for a Person/Week: $55.00
That is 250 miles per week and assuming 5 weeks (holidays, sick leave, vacation) off work that is 11,750 miles a year on your car That is $2,585 a year in gas just for work Assuming average wear and tear on your car and the loss of value on the car, that is about $700-$1000 a year against your cars worth
Total Cost of Driving: $3285-$3585
Total Cost of Riding Metro: $1020
Average Savings: $2265 - $2565

On another note of "gas prices", since we all live in varied parts of the town what's the common gas price you all see? And perhaps could keep a list of some of the cheaper places to visit for fueling. I know around my area it's 2.89 as the avg. I usually wait till i'm around deer park/center street to get gas, always seems to be cheaper by 10cents or so. Also the lil gas station infront of the Road House on spencer seems to have pretty good prices usually.

Yesterday, most prices were averaging around $2.85 for regular....... even downtown (where prices were normally .10 to .15 cents higher), but noticed today, everyone jumped to $2.95. I am getting the feeling that prices are not going to vary from station to station, area to area, as dramatically as a month or so ago.....

If you really want gas prices to go down..... we need to shut up the environmental wacko's, so we can build more gas refineries in the US and drill in Alaska and other US coastal areas.
The demand for oil will not go down, at least not in our lifetime, until we can invent a transportation vehicle that can run on cheaper alternative fuel and be as powerful as what we drive now for the American public to want to buy it.....
If you want cheaper fuel, then we need to increase the supply and be less dependent on OPEC oil.... and when we are, their prices will go down.
As long as our oil companies can buy it cheaper from OPEC than drilling for it ourselves, OPEC will control oil prices in the world......
With China becoming more modernized and needing more oil, OPEC's prices per drum will go up for everyone......JMO....

I don't know if yall have been receiving the email that is going around telling everyone not to buy gas from Exxon or Shell the two bigger suppliers to buy from the independent gas stations. They think this will hurt the big boys and the will drop thier prices. Where do they think the independent dealers get their gas? It will not work, don't be fooled in thinking you can do this. Just make sure you get good gas, you might save in the beginning, but the cost of a tune up is more than what you would save.

What I don't understand is the oil prices that are being quoted everyday is for JUNE oil futures. Why are gas prices going up now for oil they are buying for JUNE? ? The gas we are buying right now was made with oil that was alot cheaper than it will be for the JUNE oil. INTERESTING.

All companies EXCHANGE gasoline. For example : For gas stations within a 50 mile radius of Galena Park -- ALL oil companies fill their tanker trucks at the Hess tanking area, and they add their additives their while fueling, then Hess may buy their gasoline from a ExxonMobile exchange in Victoria.... Bottom line -- all major oil companies SHARE gasoline, even with the ma & pa grocery stores. Check out this website... www.snopes.com/politics/gasoline/saudigas.asp

I'm not sure if everyone has heard that the new "summer blend" consists of ethanol...... which burns cleaner....... but also burns FASTER. I've seen a noticable drop in my miles per gallon in the last month. And what I understand is the ethanol mix is here to stay.

I've always had a heavy foot and run the AC !!! #laugh# #laugh# I'm a yankee and we ALL drive like bats out of hell, and my hair will friz worse than it already does if the windows are open! #thSmlyCrakUp# Maybe it is because I have a passenger sometimes now and he weighs down my vehicle..... #thSmlyCrakUp# #thSmlyCrakUp#

actually running the a/c is better for gas consumption over rolling the windows down for ALL speeds above 25. I don't know how many of you are normally going less than 25 mph...but it ain't me. So it is better to run your a/c. Also, another interesting fact. The fan speed is not a factor in GAS CONSUMPTION. Meaning, if you run it on the coldest setting, with minimal speed you are using more gas than someone running it on a warmer temp but at full blast.

But don't run your car A/C at the lowest fan speed with the A/C set at it's coldest setting and the recycle button on.... it will freeze up your A/C system.... That is correct aqua.... fan speed has no bearing on gas consumption.... it's your A/C compressor that causes higher gas consumption.... the more it runs, the more gas you use.... But I've never heard that running your A/C uses less gas than no A/C...... I was always told that with your A/C off at all speeds uses less gas than when it's on....Less drag on the engine, when it's off....
