I am curious as to where they are going to actually play Huff. He was playing 3rd base this year. He has only committed 6 errors this year. He might be a better defensive 3rd baseman than Lamb. Hopefully his arrival will help out the offense. I was hoping they would trade for pitching and bring Luke Scott up to play the outfield. He is batting around .290 and has hit 20 hrs in triple A this year. He started in LF in the tiple A allstar game tonight. I saw that Tim Purpura said that went Huff starts playing it will cut into Ensberg's playing time.

Just saw online that the Astros fired Hitting Coach Gary Gaetti today and made Sean Berry the Interim Coach.

I just saw that they put Ensberg on the DL and brought up Luke Scott. I don't think they should have canned Gaetti. The report said that they offered Gaetti a future job with the Astros if he wanted it. I think he will most likely take Sean Berry's job being the Minor League hitting instructor for the Astro's minor league teams. Sean Berry should do a good job on the major league level. He helped several of the younger players on the team when they were coming up through the system.

Gaetti a scape goat? He should be - his job with the Astros, a very good job by the way, is to help them improve batting - they got worse, he should be fired. there are batting coaches that just move a guys foot, or raise the bat, or any little thing and they improve, because someone watching is who notices problems, not the batter. he improved no one, not one of them -in fact - they got worse as time went on. Maybe he just needs new guys but whatever, he had to go. sometimes just a shake up helps, as we see it did. had Ensberg played third last night, Astros are losers - talking about Huff making an eventual difference - that was awesome. the time to move is now - i am proud of Purpurra.

He did help a couple of players. Lamb and Burke spent a lot of time working with Gaetti. And both players have improved a lot this year. I think the Astros as players are and have always been stubborn to make changes to their hitting. I think Gaetti should have been demoted instead of fired. Heck we demoted Clarke to the minor leagues and he was just plain awful as a hitting coach. The one coach I would like see get canned is Jose Cruz. He is only here because he speaks Spanish and he is a fan favorite. They need to can him and actually get a guy who can help the outfielders get better.

The team this year is too roller-coaster like. You just never know which team is going to show up. I really do feel sorry for Clemens and the lack of run support he gets. The pitchers feel like they have to pitch a career game every start and the batters are putting too much pressure on themselves at the plate. I think they all need to have a couple of drinks before taking the field so they can relax and play some FUN ball.

per Houston Chronicle:
GM Tim Purpura ordered by owner Drayton McLane to trade closer, Brad Lidge.
Mets closer, Billy Wagner, reportedly has told their GM, Omar Minaya, that he needs to trade for Lidge and Roy Oswalt. He (Wagner) can straighten Lidge out in a day or 2... and acquiring Oswalt would guarantee a World Series Championship for the Mets.
If I'm Drayton McLane, I apologize to Clemens ($18 million should be enough) and I gut this team... trade everybody that has any value at all for prospects... call up the kids we have playing well in the minors. Keep Oswalt and Berkman and Biggio of course...
Fire Garner, Hickey and whoever else you can blame (Gaetti is already gone) then next year, sign some free agents that can help you and start over.
You have Pettitte and Clemens and Bagwells money being freed up... that's about 50 million.

They won't have to wonder much why they aren't winning this year... no timely hitting, no steady starting pitching or relievers... poor managerial decisions and no "killer instinct" by the players... those guys buy into the don't get too high or too low mindset too much... but, it's not going to work this year... they are not having "career years" out of guys like Ensberg, Lidge, Taveras... Petitte has been horrible, the Clemens side show has been a distraction... They should have dumped players and started over...

I can't believe the Astros didn't make a trade. I heard that Baltimore wanted Lidge and Ensberg included in a deal for Tejada and the Astros again said no. That was a stupid decision. Both players suck big time this year and getting rid of them would have helped the team out big time. I would have traded Lidge for a six pack of beer and a hot dog if I was the GM. They should have traded away a couple of players and gotten some help for the bullpen. Sucks that when we finally score some runs they (bullpen) squander our lead and we lose a game. Hopefully they fire Purpura in the offseason and we get a GM that will put Clemens, Bagwells and Pettites salaries to good use. They are already saying that we are going to lower our cap from 103 million to around 80 million next year. So, we definitely need another GM to spend that money wisely.

Well I also heard that they wanted Roy Oswalt too. Which if the Astros would have traded him, that would have been one of the stupidest movest ever. At least in resont years that is.
