The 14th Annual Pasadena Bowling Hall of Fame Banquet was held Saturday, February 17, 2007 at the Monument Inn Restaurant.
Greater Pasadena USBC President, David Fields, presided as Host and emcee of the event. The night began with a congratulatory greeting to the inductees and their families. They were informed they had met the required standards and by virtue of either their Outstanding Performance or Meritorious Service, had been selected for induction into the Pasadena Bowling Hall of Fame.
Life Members and Members Emerita of the former PBA/ PWBA were recognized as Special Guests along with ABC Life Member Bill Fisher, Houston, TX, who was also in attendance. This year’s Hall of Fame Committee and the Youth ushers were acknowledged and following a beautiful invocation by GPUSBC 1st VP, James Cermin, dinner was served.
Following dinner, the Hall of Fame members in attendance were announced and they gathered to toast the 2007 Inductees. Roger Banks, Sunday Evans, Liz Latham and Charlie Mills were escorted in by 2006 inductees, Melissa Pingry, Eddie Brod, Kris Boudny and Donna Wood. This year’s Hall of Fame toast was written and given by Donna Wood.
They stand before us on shaky knees; The 2007 Hall of Fame inductees. Their talent has gotten them in the guild What an honor and boy they are thrilled When the phone calls came and they knew at last The moment of waiting was in the past. That their bowling family, friends and peers Voted them in for their achievements over the years. That they have been recognized for their bowling talent Their poise and grace and all men gallant Raise your glass to toast so all will know How proud we are that they conquered this plateau.
Despite a few sound problems the night carried on with Special Guest Speaker, Joseph Haynes, USBC Field Rep for our region. Joseph gave a motivational speech congratulating the inductees upon their achievement and reminding all in attendance of how we each “leave a mark”, and that we control the type “mark we leave”.
Inductee introductions followed next with Jimmie Choate introducing Roger Banks. Roger thanked his family and friends in attendance and recounted numerous memories of their Federal Lanes days.
Jimmy Fields then introduced Sunday Evans who thanked her family in attendance, including her Aunt and Uncle, Ginger and Paul Stewart whom had traveled from Indiana.
Following an introduction by her sister, Carla Emery, Liz Latham paid her respects to her fellow former PWBA members and recounted her pride in following her mother, Vel Brown, to both the PWBA Presidency and being the first Mother/ Daughter Hall of Fame members.
Charlie Falco introduced Charlie Mills who also thanked his family for their support and paid his respects to his fellow competitors who have “inspired him to be the best he could be”.
Posthumous inductee, Robert Tatum, was described by David Fields as being a true Ambassador of bowling by virtue of his sportsmanship, grace and dignity on the lanes. Mark Martinez continued the introduction by describing Robert as a “great guy that never bragged about his success nor complained about his bad nights. Robert’s wife, Margaret Tatum, bravely accepted the plaque and certificate acknowledging how hard it was accepting these honors, as this would be the last of the recognitions for Robert’s bowling.
Special thanks to Mike and Paula Donahue for offering their services as Official Photographers. This was an overwhelming success as over $400.00 in donations for Youth Scholarships were received for the $5.00 photos. Anyone not wishing to wait in the long lines but wanting to purchase a picture will have the opportunity to review a proof sheet of prints and ordering from Paula or Mike at a later date.

I have not been on the forum for quite some time but after reading it, I now know why.... Just to clear up something for Mr. Perfect...I am no longer an "in-law" if that is who you were refering to in an earlier post! I can understand about being passed over from previous experience but it certainly didn't consume my every thought. Nor did I have anything to prove to anyone. I knew what I was capable of and had done in the past and I could live with that. I could live with it so much that I (in a few select words) and to a previous Hall of Fame Committe told them I wasn't seeking their approval nor was I interested in there recognition. I was also informed from this particular previous committee that there were certain people who would never be in "their" Hall of Fame" due to lack of sportsmanship and not being "ladylike". I wasn't aware then that "ladylike" was a part of the criteria. I am woman enough to openly admit that there are women who should be in before me and who have a longer resume's than I...such as Ann White. To tell the truth, I am not sure why she isn't in but whole heartedly believe she should be. IMO the only way to take prejudice out of voting is to go blind ballot and let the stats, be it performance or service speak for itself! Then perhaps personalities wouldn't keep someone from getting in. YOU MIGHT BE THE VERY PERSON THIS MAY BENEFIT! But how dare you attempt to take my moment of glory away by your previous comments. While I understand you weren't personally attacking me, I am pretty sure the in-law statement was directed at the Fields/Evans relationship! And just so you know, a Hall of Fame is a Hall of Fame. The certificates all come from ABC, WIBC and now USBC. There are a few of them hanging in my house so I know this first hand. We all bowl under one umbrella, just in different geographical locations!
Now onto something more positive...WHAT AN AWESOME BANQUET!!! The committee really outdid themselves and I am so appreciative! The hard work and planning sure paid off and I am so pleased to have been part of the festivities! Thanks to all involved for your dedication and making the night for me one of my best moments ever!

I to thought the banquet went off with out a hitch. Thought all the inductees gave good heart felt speeches of congratulations to family and friends and Mr. Haynes had a very good speech.... I had a great time.. I also tip my hat to the Hall of Fame Committee and others for all the hard work they put in setting everything up. That is why the Pasadena Hall of Fame is one of the best around from what I hear....

It was brought to my attention last night that the PBHoF may need to examine the number of inductees we are having every year.
We now have 57 members in just 14 years of existence. Houston doesn't have much more than that in 40+.
I was asked about 1 male/ 1 female regardless of performance or service and posthumous would not count against that...
We would have to redo our voting procedures and policy if that came to pass.
I'm not sure how I feel about it... in one way I thinks its a good idea, but, we also have a huge turnout for our banquets every year, and reducing the number of inductees will decrease the attendance by approximately 15-20 each that you do away with....
If you went to say a system such as the Baseball HoF, where you induct however many get a certain % of the vote, whether it be one or 5, that is an option....
I also think we may have existing HoF members be responsible for the nominations. There are enough active members to handle this, and it will reduce the number of incomplete applications and submissions of marginal candidates... and I mean marginal in the kindest way... but, a nice guy with 2- 300 games and 1- 800 is marginal.... sorry...
So we will analyze things this year and see what happens... the HoF is governing itself and reports to the Association...

I can see that point to some degree as far as how many we induct but I also see your point as well as far as attendance to the banquet. Maybe at some point when the quality of nominees are more deluted, that might be a consideration...but right now I feel we have many qualified nominees that aren't in yet...JMO... Right now, things are working good the way they are, I don't see a reason why we should change....JMO... But that will be up to the Hall of Famers to decide....
