Park Central Recreation Center in Pt. Arthur is having legal issues regarding hurricane damage, insurance payoffs and conflicting wishes of what to do buy building owners and business owners.
Long story short, they have closed as of this time. It is not out of business, there business has increased under the new operating partners... it is strictly building and property insurance... apparently the property is quite valuable, and the owners see the opportunity to not finish the repairs and sell out from under the business operating group... they had no league bowling for 12 or 13 weeks after Hurricane Rita...
With that being said, the Mixed State people, cannot hold out with the tenuous situation... the other Center in Beaumont is only 24 lanes, and they cannot handle the number of teams for the tournament apparently...
So, the Pasadena Bowling Assoc. and the Pasadena Women's B.A. had bid on the touney, and didn't get it... now, we are being offered the tournament...
We are in the process of approving the bid acceptance. Both bowling Centers in Pasadena are wanting to host the tournament.
More information to follow... I will say this... with 6 or 7 weekends of bowling Saturday and Sunday... and only 21 Board members... it will be the oportunity for many volunteers to help out.

Does the State run the brackets or is that something we will be handling? If so, sign me up to be BRACKETMAN, JR.

I'm not sure which one it is, but I have heard it is a little easier to use than Brackman... we have to provide the ;aptops and the manpower. You have been signed up... you just didn't know it yet...

If I wasn't part of that committee, I was going to request the Chairman position for the 50/50 since I run one for our league every week...lol. I have plenty of experience with that activity

Well, I think it's way too early to begin handing out job duties for the tournament...
I will say this... it makes for a VERY busy year for me... I have to get the new Board up and running, be a part of finishing the Transition from old Board to New... we have to train our entire new Board on the USBC way... which I don't even know what that will entail yet...
BUSY BUSY BUSY

As a reminder, the tournament starts this coming weekend. We will need some volunteers to work each weekend. Forms are available at each center, so sign up to volunteer to help the Assn. You can turn in the forms to any GPUSBCA board member. We really need help at Diamond for the team event. Thanks.

The first weekend is in the books. We got off to a rocky start at Diamond, but it seemed like after the machines warmed up, things went fine. There were a minimal amount of problems. It wasn't near as bad as some thought it would be. Had plenty of time between shifts to reoil the lanes and each squad started on time and even 1 squad started early because everyone had checked in.
I won't be working next weekend because I will be bowling. I don't think I would have the energy to do both...lol

Things went fairly smooth at Armadillo also, this weekend. The only real complaint from the first squad was that there weren't enough people for brackets.
Congrats to Kenneth Coker for the tournaments' first 300 and for his nice 770 series.
There was also a 11-in-a-row shot, and a couple of 100-pins over average.

Most of the problem @ Diamond seemed to stem from people not being familiar with the scoring system and improperly re-setting the machines etc. I saw the mechanic's call sheet record kept @ the front desk and there was a few respots and ball returns but none of the major catastrophies that were predicted. That being said... neither of the bowling centers should rest on a successful first weekend, which was relatively slow... it will be busier and busier from this point on.
