Well, I was a part of a couple of teams that went to the Dallas/Fort Worth area for mixed state a couple weekends ago.............. it wasn't altogether pretty for me. I doubt if my teammates ask me to go with them again........OR if they DO ask me, it will be only to drive them, not to bowl. I must admit, however, that I was a darn-good cheerleader even though I wanted to kick a few ball-returns !!! #nutkick# But it was much easier to high-five everyone rather then to expend more energy in a temper tantrum...... I needed all the strength I could keep my slow-a$$$ed ball on the lane. I was very impressed (and envious, I might add) with Donna Zurovec's, Dana Simmons' and Samantha Stafford's gutsy performance on those lane conditions. Especially the team event after a memorable night of............... eh hummmmmmmmmm ........... fun and adult beverages............ and other things that I can't mention on this forum. (I have been warned that what happened in Dallas, stays in Dallas). I am in awe of their competitiveness and would love to be able to keep up with them someday.
I was also surprised to see quite a few other Pasadena teams and a couple of teams I remember from Armadillo II on the same squad we were on. Next year's Mixed will be in Beaumont, I believe and I am hoping there will be even more teams out of this area since it will be so close.

!/2 of the tournament will be @ Crossroads Bowling Center in Beaumont. The other event will be held @ Park Central Recreation Center in Port Arthur.
The local Pasadena bowling Associations bid on the tournament, but, it is required by the Texas State Bowling Council, the outfit that runs the tournament in conjunction with the local Associations, that the houses must belong to the Proprietor's Club or something like that, and neither of the Pasadena Centers belongs.. so we did not get it.
Therefore, I am hesitant to support the tournament.

Do you think the requirements will ever change, especially now with the new USBC It would be interesting to know how many centers in Texas are actually part of the Proprietor's Club. I am unfamiliar with the purpose for such a "club".

Proprietor's have to pay a large fee for this, but they are given ways of recouping this fee, through State run Tourns. and other Tourns and discounts from businesses. I don't know all the particulars but I do know, that Arm I and Diamond would never pay this fee to join.... so it's a mute point...... We'll never have a State ran Tourn. in Pasadena..... And when State Tourns. do come to Houston, only centers that our members are considered for hosting the Tourns.

Hummmmmm, our sanction fees are being paid to fund the state association board and they, in turn, are excluding our bowling centers from participating in events? Are the Texas board members also part of the Proprietor's Club board? It seems this is a conflict of interest....

Our sanction fees for State and National levels have nothing to do with "our" houses (Pasadena)... The sanction fees we pay, does not entitle our Assoc. and houses to be considered for State or National run events... As we found out...lol.. Besides, Pasadena could not handle anything bigger than Mixed State anyway.... Womens and Mens State is too large for our houses to have...IMO..... Also, Armadilla I has too many other things going on, on weekends to commit 6 to 8 weeks for Mens State and I have no idea how many weeks Women's State would require (4 to 6 weeks I would presume) ...IMO...

I guess I was looking at it from the other side -- a separate entity, the Proprietor's Club, having the say-so to what houses the Texas board choose to host state tournaments. Makes me wonder what kind of people we have on the boards (are they getting a cut from the Proprietor's Club? ) and what is being done with the fees the houses pay to be a member of the "club". I guess it is clear that I am clueless on this subject....

"Men's" and "Women's" State Tournaments run for months, not weeks. At the very least March thru the end of June, sometimes a week or 2 in July. Mixed state is 6 weeks, Senior State is 2 weeks.
The fee to join this proprietor stuff is like $100/ lane? Something like that, maybe $1,000.. though that seems high... you get rebates from different corporate sponsors and the "opportunity" to bid on hosting tournaments endorsed by the Texas State Bowling Council.
